In the presence of more than 300 guests — including European and national authorities, senior representatives of automotive companies, universities, and business organizations — ACAROM celebrated three decades of activity and marked an important milestone for a sector that is critical to the Romanian economy.

“Thirty years means a great deal for any organization, and for an industry association it means something even more special: that year after year, people chose to build together instead of each going their own way. The results speak for themselves. Today, the automotive industry represents the most important pillar of Romanian industry: it contributes significantly to GDP and exports, supports hundreds of thousands of jobs, and places Romania on the map of relevant manufacturers in Europe. None of this happened by chance. It was achieved because we had a platform capable of bringing together the industry’s interests and speaking with one unified voice where it mattered. It is an achievement that everyone involved can be proud of, and personally, I feel privileged to be part of this story,” said Mihai Bordeanu, President of ACAROM and Managing Director of Dacia, during the opening of the event.

On this occasion, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Roxana Mînzatu highlighted the important role of the automotive industry for the European economy: “In Europe, approximately 13.6 million people work in the automotive industry. Of these, more than 220,000 are in Romania. It is a huge sector that contributes more than 8% of the European Union’s GDP, but it is currently facing real pressures. Europe must respond pragmatically: by finding new markets, investing in innovation and emerging technologies, helping workers reskill, and building stronger production chains within the EU to remain globally competitive. Romania is regarded as an important production hub in the automotive industry, and this status must be strengthened. The Romanian Automotive Manufacturers Association can also play an important role, provided that at European level such organizations work closely together. Only together can they make the industry’s voice heard and keep pace with global competition.”

The discussions also included perspectives shared by representatives of the two major manufacturers, Dacia and Ford Otosan, as well as automotive suppliers represented at the event by Bosch, Continental, and Rombat. Participants addressed the current challenges facing Romania’s automotive industry and the key directions for improving its competitiveness.

The Romanian Automotive Manufacturers Association (ACAROM) celebrated yesterday, May 25, the 30th anniversary of its establishment at the Palace of Parliament in Bucharest.
