{"id":9961,"date":"2021-06-08T10:15:34","date_gmt":"2021-06-08T07:15:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.automotive-today.ro\/?p=9961"},"modified":"2021-06-08T10:15:34","modified_gmt":"2021-06-08T07:15:34","slug":"bosch-opens-german-chip-plant-following-one-billion-euro-investment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.automotive-today.ro\/index.php\/2021\/06\/08\/bosch-opens-german-chip-plant-following-one-billion-euro-investment\/","title":{"rendered":"Bosch opens German chip plant following one billion Euro investment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bosch opened a one-billion-euro chip plant in Germany, a record investment by the leading automotive supplier as it stakes a claim to equipping the latest electric and self-driving cars.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-1\">The plant, located in a semiconductor hub near Dresden, opens as the automotive industry battles a\u00a0global chip shortage, and will increase Bosch\u2019s ability to serve carmakers directly, relying less on third-party manufacturers, Reuters reads.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-2\">Addressing an online opening ceremony, Chancellor Angela Merkel said semiconductor shortages were hampering Germany&#8217;s economic recovery, and that it was important to strengthen resilience against external supply disruptions.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-4\">The Bosch plant will make specialist power-management chips and Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) that are designed to carry out a single task, such as triggering a car&#8217;s automatic braking system.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-6\">It will not however address shortages of products like microcontrollers which have forced auto makers to\u00a0halt production\u00a0and are expected by industry leaders and analysts to extend into next year.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-7\">The Bosch plant, which received 200 million Euro in state aid under a European Union investment scheme, will start making chips for power tools in July, with output of automotive chips to follow from September.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bosch opened a one-billion-euro chip plant in Germany, a record investment by the leading automotive supplier as it stakes a claim to equipping the latest electric and self-driving cars.
