Porsche Engineering Romania celebrates ten years as a software and AI hub
Porsche Engineering Romania is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2026. Over the past decade, the company has grown into a leading software and engineering hub with locations in Cluj-Napoca and Timișoara. As part of Porsche Engineering – the international technology partner providing engineering services and digital solutions for the automotive industry and other sectors – it contributes its expertise to the global development network.
Today, more than 380 specialists work across software-defined systems, embedded software, AI, connectivity, electrification, systems engineering, and testing. Their contributions range from software-driven systems that were developed from the earliest stages and are now used in series production across multiple customer platforms and industries, to solutions that leverage neural networks for reliable obstacle detection by processing sensor and camera data. They have also created an AI platform that started as an internal proof of concept and has since evolved into an enterprise-scale solution supporting AI adoption across Porsche Engineering.
Rooted in automotive development and active beyond it, Porsche Engineering Romania continues to advance its expertise in various application domains. A recent example is electric water mobility, where technologies proven in the automotive industry were adapted to the specific requirements of the marine environment. The Romanian team contributed to software development, integration, testing, and validation, and the project also marked the company’s first implementation of the AUTOSAR standard, an internationally recognized framework used in the automotive industry to develop and integrate software for modern vehicles, opening an engineering field beyond its traditional scope.
“Software and artificial intelligence are transforming industries worldwide,” says Marius Mihailovici, CEO of Porsche Engineering Romania. “Porsche Engineering Romania has grown from a small, highly motivated team into a strong organization with deep expertise in these fields. We will continue to strengthen these capabilities and contribute our expertise to new technologies and application domains in the years ahead.”
