Ford Otosan Romania invests more than 36 million RON in new solar park in Craiova
Ford Otosan Romania has announced an investment of more than 36 million RON in a new photovoltaic solar park at its Craiova plant, as part of the company’s strategy to increase renewable energy production and reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by its operations.
The new solar park will have an installed capacity of 5.10 MW and is expected to generate approximately 5,531 MWh of renewable electricity annually. The electricity produced will be used entirely for the factory’s own consumption, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 3,385 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
The project is receiving non-reimbursable funding through Romania’s Modernisation Fund, under the programme supporting investments in new renewable electricity generation capacities for self-consumption. The financing agreement was signed with the Ministry of Energy on August 19, 2026.
“At Ford Otosan, we integrate sustainability into all our activities to help build a better future. In manufacturing, this means investing in concrete solutions that reduce our environmental impact. We already use photovoltaic glass and rooftop photovoltaic systems at our plants in Türkiye. The project in Craiova brings this approach to Romania and will support the plant’s long-term competitiveness,” said Fırat Elhüseyni, President of Ford Otosan Romania.
The total value of the solar park project amounts to RON 36.45 million, of which RON 8.63 million represents non-reimbursable funding provided through the Modernisation Fund. The remaining amount will be financed from Ford Otosan Romania’s own funds.
