Continental Tires Romania – major investments in a strategic location at European level (P)

According to leading national rankings, Continental Tires Romania is among the largest contributors to the state budget and one of the main players in Romania’s automotive industry. In addition, the company has made significant investments especially in technology and sustainability, totaling more than 700 million euros since its establishment,  and has directed over 2 million euros to social responsibility projects.

The Timișoara tire plant remains the only Continental tire production unit in Romania. In the past five years, the plant has contributed more than 1.2 billion RON to the state budget, the equivalent close to 250 million euros, averaging of 50 million euros per year in taxes, duties, and contributions.

Starting in July 2025, the Timișoara location has been complemented by a new regional services HUB, bringing together key functions such as Finance, IT, Purchasing, HR, and Legal and, most importantly, a team of highly skilled professionals supporting global Continental operations. The decision to establish this HUB in Timișoara reflects the location’s proven value within the global Continental network and the trust placed in the local team’s ability to deliver operational excellence on an international scale.

Continental Tires Romania is one of the most modern tire factories within the global Continental network, marking 25 years in 2025 since the start of production. The plant plays a strategic role in delivering high-performance tires to customers around the world and stands as a model of technological transformation through automation, digitalization, and sustainability-driven initiatives.

In the current economic context, performance, operational efficiency, and products integrating state-of-the-art technology remain essential to maintaining competitiveness, both locally and globally. Consequently, the plant’s efforts will continue to focus on continuous improvement and sustainable performance growth.

Recognition of these efforts has not been long in coming. The location was recently honored with the Quality Award, an internal Continental distinction celebrating excellence in product quality, a confirmation of the site’s continuous progress and commitment to high standards. On this occasion, the Global Head of Quality visited the Timișoara plant for an in-depth dialogue with the local team on future directions for continuous improvement, process digitalization, and capability development. Quality and customer satisfaction remain the foundation of success.

In the same spirit, the plant hosted the EMEA Strategy Conference, an event that brought together all Continental Tires plant directors across Europe, along with central management. The meeting focused on sharing best practices, discussing current challenges, and aligning priorities for future cooperation through new European initiatives aimed at enhancing industrial performance.

Through these initiatives, Continental Tires Romania continues to strengthen its strategic role within the Continental Tires international network and its position as a benchmark for the local industry. By aligning social responsibility with long-term business strategy, the company lays the foundation for sustainable growth driven by investments in people, advancements in sustainability, and meaningful engagement with the community.
