Ford Otosan marks production milestone at Craiova plant with 1,000,000th Ford Puma built
Today, Ford Otosan celebrated a landmark achievement at its Craiova plant: the assembly of the 1,000,000th Ford Puma. Launched in 2019, Ford Puma has consistently been Ford’s best-selling passenger vehicle in Europe.
The journey to one million units produced reflects Ford’s agility in adapting to changing market trends. The Puma successfully transitioned from diesel and petrol engines to mild-hybrid technology and, beginning in 2025, to full electrification with the launch of the Puma Gen-E.
“It is a true source of pride to produce the iconic Ford Puma at our Craiova plant. It is Ford’s best-selling passenger vehicle in Europe and a model that has delivered outstanding results in recent years, particularly in the UK market,” said Fırat Elhüseyni, President of Ford Otosan Romania. “This historic milestone would not have been possible without the dedication and passion of the people who have worked in this factory over the years. They are the real driving force behind this achievement, and I thank them for their continuous efforts to deliver excellence.”
With the launch of the Puma Gen-E in 2025, Ford Otosan is writing a new chapter in the history of Romania’s automotive industry, becoming the country’s first manufacturer of fully electric vehicles. This major milestone strengthens the Craiova plant’s position as a pioneer in the transition toward sustainable mobility and demonstrates the company’s long-term commitment to innovation and the development of a modern technological ecosystem in Romania.
Market conditions continue to favor the Romanian-built model. The Puma remained the best-selling passenger vehicle in the United Kingdom for the third consecutive year at the end of 2025, with this success continuing into the first months of 2026.
