Mihai Ivanescu, Premium Auto: “The first and most important challenge in developing electric mobility in Romania is charging infrastructure”

“Very important in recent years is that artificial intelligence is moving to a higher application. This concept dates back to 1956, it was discovered and defined in the United States and has evolved since then.
Things are constantly evolving and probably the sky is the limit as to what AI can bring us in the future.
R&D is a concept for which there are no limits. It is the key to success and development. Car manufacturers are currently developing the area of superior electronics and artificial intelligence in order to create safer, less polluting, more comfortable products,” Mihai Ivanescu, General Director, Premium Auto said at Automotive R&D Conference organized by Automotive Today and The Diplomat-Bucharest.
Key statements:
- New technologies cannot produce the maximum effect from the first day they are launched on the market. There is a process that is continuously unfolding. Let me give you an example. The batteries of these electric cars either discharge very quickly or heat up very much, and tests take place around the Arctic Circle and in desert areas to see how they behave in extreme temperature conditions.
- Our company (the Jaguar Land Rover group) uses platforms dedicated to ICE engines to reduce distribution costs. It was a winning strategy because the prices of cars on platforms dedicated to electric vehicles were quite high.
- Several of our models are equipped with a technology based on artificial intelligence that adjusts the suspensions depending on road conditions by analyzing 100 parameters 500 times a second.
- We are waiting for the launch of the new 100% electric Range Rover model at the end of the year, but until then I want to talk to you about customer feedback regarding PHEV models. Their first question is related to the range and how far they can travel on a full tank. Customers are quite well informed and have a lot of knowledge about the models they are interested in.
- The first and most important challenge in developing electric mobility in Romania is charging infrastructure. If we do not have a plan for the development of this infrastructure, the other challenges do not even matter.
