Volvo expands investment in US plant to boost growth
Volvo Cars will expand production at its US plant in Ridgeville, South Carolina, as part of its long-term commitment to the American market. The company has invested USD 1.3 billion in the facility over the past decade and plans to reach full utilization of its 150,000-vehicle annual capacity in the coming years.
Before 2030, the company plans to add a new next-generation hybrid model to the Ridgeville production line. Designed specifically to meet the needs of US customers, the new model reflects Volvo Cars’ strategy to tailor products to regional markets and strengthen its presence in North America.
The Ridgeville plant already produces the fully electric Volvo EX90 SUV and the Polestar 3 and will begin building the best-selling XC60 in late 2026. In the first eight months of 2025, Volvo sold more than 27,000 XC60s in the United States—nearly 20 percent more than in the same period of 2024.
Volvo Cars’ continued investment underscores its confidence in the US market, where it has sold over 5 million vehicles since first entering 70 years ago. The company sees South Carolina as a cornerstone for its growth, with the upcoming hybrid model marking a significant step toward balancing electrification with evolving customer preferences.
