Dan Lazarescu, Bosch Romania: “We need to diversify our supply chains and increase the share of local products”
“Our end customers are interested in the fact that we are a stable supplier that must ensure a secure supply chain. The best way to get through a crisis is to do it together. Understanding how the customer plans and how they need those components helps us prioritize our production so that both of us – we and the customers – come out of this crisis as well as possible,” said Dan Lazarescu, General Manager, Bosch Romania, during the Automotive Forum 2025, organized by Automotive Today and The Diplomat-Bucharest.
Key statements:
• “I believe this is the first thing we need to do. Besides that, I am sure every supplier has many tasks to accomplish. We need to diversify our supply chains. We must place strong emphasis on local content.”
• “There is an initiative at the European Commission level to increase the percentage of components we use, specifically targeting 75% to be produced within the European area. This initiative is very important as a strategy and aligns perfectly with the initiative we are pursuing together with our colleagues from Infineon and TSMC, precisely to strengthen the sustainability of the supply chain.”
• “I imagine that absolutely every Tier 1 supplier has second-source strategies and is looking for alternative solutions, and we are ready to find common solutions and ensure we can implement them quickly and efficiently.”
• “In a crisis, we simply need to work together, and if we do that, we will get through the crisis more easily. As a general strategy, I believe that focusing on local content must be one of the priorities of the automotive industry, and we hope this will also translate into national legislation.”
• “We need a more strategic and more serious approach regarding competitiveness. There are many, many good things happening in Romania. We have an extremely talented workforce. This is indisputable. All companies in Romania benefit from this, and we are among them. We invest in these people.”
• “The step toward technology means partnership; it means cooperation; it means a partnership between the industrial sector, academia, and research institutions. If we invest in partnerships, we will be able to create the foundations for competitive projects.”
