Piaxo opens new R&D center for electric mobility in Timisoara, in collaboration with Clarios
Piaxo, a leading Romanian engineering company, today announced the opening of a new research and development center in Timisoara, developed in strategic collaboration with Clarios.
The initiative will create over 120 highly skilled jobs across all engineering disciplines — including software, hardware, systems, testing, quality and project management — and accelerate the development of sustainable battery technologies for future mobility.
“Our ambition is to build a long‑term and stable R&D center in Timisoara that gives future employees confidence and security — especially in uncertain times. We aim to create a hub of mobility innovation where integrated solutions for tomorrow’s vehicles are developed: high‑performance, safe, and ready to meet the demands of the global automotive industry,” said Ion Petic, CEO of Piaxo. “Timisoara offers the ideal environment for sustainable innovation, with its strong talent pool and proximity to leading universities.”
The center is part of Piaxo’s commitment to sourcing the best engineering talent from Timisoara and fostering innovation in collaboration with global partners, and Piaxo is hiring exclusively in Timișoara to strengthen and invest in the local engineering talent ecosystem.
As a strategic partner, Clarios brings its global expertise in battery development and manufacturing. With approximately 18,000 employees in over 100 countries and annual production of more than 150 million batteries powering one in three vehicles worldwide, Clarios underscores its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and international collaboration.
“At Clarios, we are dedicated to driving the development of sustainable mobility solutions in collaboration with Piaxo,” said Alexander van Laack, Chief Technology Officer at Clarios. “The new center in Timisoara strengthens our development activities in Europe and enables innovative solutions for the vehicles of tomorrow.”
The center will support R&D projects in areas such as battery management systems (BMS), sodium-ion and lithium-ion storage solutions, as well as inverter and supercapacitor technologies essential for modern vehicles and safety-critical functions. Piaxo will establish and operate the Timisoara center and collaborate with Clarios on agreed development programs, supporting the development of advanced battery technologies for future mobility.
