ROMBAT owns the only internationally accredited Battery Testing Laboratory in Romania
ROMBAT, the leader of the local car battery market, has the only Battery Testing Laboratory in Romania accredited to international standards, making it the only company in our country capable of performing internationally recognized tests. Starting from April 24, 2025, the ROMBAT Battery Testing Laboratory has obtained the official RENAR accreditation, for the testing activity provided for in the Annex to certificate no. LI1296, according to the international standard SR EN ISO/IEC 17025:2015.
The RENAR accreditation gives ROMBAT Bistrița the unique ability in Romania to perform internationally recognized tests, in accordance with the new European regulation that requires certain products to be accompanied by a technical file that includes tests performed in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory, recognized by the ILAC-MRA agreement (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation – Mutual Recognition Arrangement).
“Obtaining accreditation according to the SR EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard for our battery testing laboratory, under the aegis of the Romanian Accreditation Association (RENAR), confirms ROMBAT’s commitment to quality, rigor and technical performance, in line with the highest international requirements. Accreditation is not just a certificate on a wall — it is proof that our team’s work meets the highest standards. I would like to thank all my colleagues who have contributed to this journey and our partners for their trust. We look forward with responsibility, confidence and the desire to support the sustainable development of the energy industry,” said Alin Romulus Ioaneș, CEO of ROMBAT.
Testing laboratories are a standard practice among battery and electrical equipment manufacturers internationally, being essential for ensuring the quality, safety and compliance of products with international regulations. Top global manufacturers have such laboratories used to validate their products before launch but also to support technological innovation.
For ROMBAT, the existence of a testing laboratory accredited according to SR EN ISO/IEC 17025 represents a value-added service for customers in addition to alignment with international best practices. To expand testing capacity and obtain international accreditation, ROMBAT has invested over 150,000 euros in the last two years, taking into account that the implementation of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements requires a rigorous quality management system, which leads to clearer processes, traceability, internal audits and corrective actions — all aimed at maintaining high-level performance. Prior to international accreditation, tests were performed in the company’s Battery Metrology and Testing Laboratory (LMTB).
The internationally accredited testing laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, has a team of one engineer and three technicians, operates approximately 250 test programs and has the capacity to analyze up to 100 batteries simultaneously. During the testing process, essential parameters such as capacity, durability, start-up performance and vibration resistance are checked. The duration of the tests varies between 24 hours and 4 months, depending on the product specifications.
The results issued by the ROMBAT laboratory eliminate the need for retests in other countries
The current version of the standard emphasizes digitalization, integration of information systems and flexibility in testing methods, adapted to technological evolution and international requirements. This official recognition confirms the technical competence and reliability of the test results performed, aligning ROMBAT with the highest international standards. RENAR accreditation confirms that the ROMBAT laboratory has the ability to provide valid and reliable test results, in accordance with international requirements. It is a guarantee of professionalism and impartiality in testing activity. The results issued by an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory are recognized globally, thanks to the international agreements signed by RENAR (through ILAC and EA), which eliminates the need for retesting in other countries and allows direct acceptance of the results within European compliance procedures.
