Romania’s car production drops 2.7 percent in first eight months of 2025
Romania’s auto industry recorded a slight decline in output during the first eight months of 2025, with total car production falling by 2.7 percent compared to the same period last year, according to data from ACAROM, the country’s automotive manufacturers’ association.
In July and August alone, factories in Mioveni and Craiova produced 62,584 vehicles, down 2 percent from the same two months of 2024. At Dacia’s Mioveni plant, 28,284 cars rolled off the production line, while Ford Otosan’s Craiova facility accounted for 34,300 units.
Cumulatively, between January and August 2025, the two plants assembled 346,800 vehicles, compared to more than 356,000 units in the same period of 2024.
The decline comes after Romania’s car industry reached record levels in recent years. In 2024, production hit 560,102 vehicles, up 9.1 percent from 2023, when output also set a record at 513,050 units.
